on getting started

Book planning intensive: Two women doing the creative, strategic work of starting a book. The image shows two women brainstorming in an art studio with scarps of paint and words scattered across the table.

This month, I’ve talked to several people with fascinating material for books. They came from different fields, different countries, and with different goals, but they had one thing in common:

They had a strong vision. But they didn’t know where to start.

Some were overwhelmed by their own ideas.
(“Too much” can be scarier than “too little.”)

But they also knew something important: they wanted to start strong.

There’s wisdom in not rushing into a book before finding the right angle.

“A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step,” goes the proverb — but so does getting lost in the woods.

So, based on these conversations, I decided to put something together for people who are ready to start their book and want to do so with a road map and a compass:

A book planning intensive.

This is a high-level brainstorming + strategy session designed to help you:

✅ Clarify your core concept
✅ Shape the structure and narrative
✅ Identify what’s working (and what’s missing)
✅ Determine possible publishing paths (and write with them in mind)
✅ And set out with concrete next steps for realizing your vision.

It’s ideal for memoir, narrative nonfiction, thought leadership books, and those big-idea book projects that call to you but don’t quite fit into a genre.

If you or someone you know have been circling a book idea and want to begin in the strongest possible way, I’d love to talk.

I’m Kimberly, book coach & ghostwriter specializing in memoir and transformative nonfiction books for creative people with a powerful story.
